Did this ever happen to you? I was on a two lane blacktop out in the country in Pennsylvania when I came around a curve that entered on to a steel bridge over a creek. The road crew was working on the bridge with some kind of automatic hammer device on wheels, either air or hydraulic powered. It gave off a deep steady thump-thump-thump sound which traveled through the road and right up into my bike, and of course before I knew what it was, my heart almost stopped! I thought my Savage had blown a rod! I could not only hear the sound, I could feel it through the bike. As soon as I realized what it was, I was so relieved, I stopped and told the flagman and we both laughed. Wow! What relief. With only 1700 miles, it would really break my heart to have something like that happen to my best girl Suzy.
